SUSAN SLOBODZIAN (BERNHARDT) 1934 - 2008 After a short but courageous battle with cancer, the family sadly announces the untimely passing of our Mother, Sister, Grandmother and Great-grandmother on January 11, 2008 at the age of 73 years. Susan was predeceased by her parents, George and Molly and by her beloved husband Michael in 1991. Susan is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Gail (Doug) of Gimli; her son Barry (Dawn) of Calgary, her grandchildren, Shanlee of Toronto, Alison (Jake) of Steinbach and Mark (Karin) of Brandon, her brother Hank (Yvonne). Susan is also survived and will be deeply missed by her three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Erin and Keaton and many nieces and nephews. Susan was born in Runnymede, Saskatchewan in 1934 and moved to Manitoba in the Mid 1940s. She enjoyed her life to the fullest and after the passing of her husband, Susan found new meaning and adventures in the remaining years of her life. Susan was involved in many various activities which included learning to swim, line dancing, acting and drama club, golf and bowling, as well as being on various social club executives such as Good Neighbors Senior Club, The Parkside Social Club and Meal Program, and The Millennium Gardens where she had her little garden plot. Susan was also very active in the Red Hat Society. One of Susan's many other joys in her life besides her family and friends was her travels to many far off destinations which included Spain, Portugal, Hawaii, Mexico, six Caribbean Cruises, The Maritimes, and her favorite, Graceland. In the summer of 2007, Susan spent two months at the lake with her daughter Gail and could be seen many days lounging on the deck, in her chair, waiting for her many friends and relatives to visit. She had a smile for all her guests and remained humorous and feisty until her final days. Susan always had twinkle in her eye that conveyed her loving, kind, entertaining and sometimes stubborn nature, but all in good fun. She passed on many of these characteristics to her children and grandchildren for which we are eternally grateful. The family wishes to thank all of the staff of 3East Riverview Healthcare especially Dr. Pilkey, Dr. Dave and nurses Dorothy Dawn, Arlene and Caroline plus all the aids who made her final days as dignified and peaceful as possible. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will take place on Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. At Susan's request, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba in her name, ON1160 - 675 McDermot Ave, Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
