JOHN BANASH After a lengthy illness, John passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on January 14, 2008 at Selkirk General Hospital at 82 years of age. John was born in Walkleyburg, MB (East Selkirk) on April 14, 1925 where he spent his early years on the family farm which he took over when his parents retired. In 1972 he retired from farming and with his family, took up residence on acreage near Selkirk where his self taught carpentry and mechanical skills always kept him busy. During this time also, and until his retirement in 1989, John worked for Manitoba Government Services, S.M.H.C. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Irene, their children, Ron and Grant (Rachel) and two granddaughters, Zoey and Molley. He will also be sadly missed by his four surviving sisters, Marie Chernetsky, Sophie (Tony) Ruptash, Ann Kotack and Carrie Novalski, along with numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Andrew Banash, brother Bernard, sisters, Jean Stepanzak, Frances Kuprowski, nephew Paul Banash and a twin brother in infancy. Also, brothers-in-law John Kotach, John Stepanzak, Harvey Chernetsky and Nick Kuprowski and sister-in-law Eva Banash. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Notre Dame Church, 269 Jemima St., Selkirk, MB followed with burial at Notre Dame Cemetery. Fr. Art Seaman officiating. Specials thanks to Dr. G. R. Fuchs and Dr. R. Zoppa and staff from surgical and medical wards of the Selkirk General Hospital for the excellent care John received during his illness. If friends and relatives so desire, donations may be made in John's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or Selkirk General Hospital. Pallbearers will be Randy Chernetsky, Ryan Chernetsky, Brad Ruptash, Paul Hnatiuk, David Hnatiuk, Casmir Wazney. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Ruptash and Alex Katazinski. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
