JOHAN ALEXANDERINA MACGREGOR MACLEOD METCALFE ROSS (nee THOMAS) It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother and Friend on Saturday January 12, 2008 at Riverview Health Centre. She slipped away in her sleep after a valiant fight that lasted five years. She leaves to Mourn her passing her loving children, Leslie (Jimmie) McNulty, Susan (Rene) Aprile, Nancy (Everett) Tremeer and Gregg Metcalfe. Stepchildren, Hugh David (Wendy) Ross, John (Virginia) Ross, Suzanne Ross, Allison Ross, Graeme (Karen) Ross. Grandchildren, Scott, Kimberly, Paul, Jamie, Rebecca, Lindsey, Samantha, Steven, Nathalie, Marc, Nadine, Elizabeth, David, Jeremey, Robson, Timothy, John, Beth, Peter, Nicholas, Christopher, Melisa and Danielle. Jo also had 20 great-grandchildren and was looking forward to another great-grandchild in the Spring. Jo was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on April 11, 1927 and came to Canada with her Mom in 1930. Mom went through many hardships in her life but they never tainted or left her bitter. She always found something positive in any situation and because of her love for life she met and married Hugh Murray Ross in 1972, her life was never the same. From having four children she now had ten. Hugh and Jo enjoyed many trips together especially to London, England. They traveled throughout Canada, the United States, Europe and the Caribbean. She lost her love Hugh in 2002. Her favourite place in all the world was Fox Lake, Ontario where she spent each and every summer with her family. Who will ever forget her girls parties, she would feed and water all the girls on the lake in her gazebo overlooking the water. For the last six years she has enjoyed her winter vacations in Mazatlan, Mexico. She has a large group of friends who marveled at her determination and positive attitude. She missed this year but planned on coming next year. She will be missed! In 2003 she found and met for the first time her extended family in Caithness, Scotland where she was accepted immediately. Some of us had the pleasure to share that moment with her. As a family we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the home care workers and nurses that cared for Mom 24 hours a day in her apartment and to Mary Ashcroft who orchestrated it for us. Jo's wishes were to be cremated and that has been done. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be on Saturday, January 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway. Flowers are respectfully declined and instead please donate to one of the Cancer Research Organizations in Winnipeg in Jo's name. It has been an honour to be a part of Johan's life Her next adventure has begun!
