WINIFRED MARY DAVIES Peacefully on Tuesday, January 15, 2008, Winnie passed away at the Red River Valley Lodge at the age of 90 years. Winnie was predeceased by her husband Douglas in 1968; her parents William and Grace Hunt; her only sibling, sister Grace Lloyd and husband Jimmy; and nephew Hugh. Left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-law Kay Davies, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Winnie was born and raised in Steep, Petersfield, England. She attended Petersfield County High School, and on completion she received a scholarship, and attended Portsmouth Training College, becoming a certified teacher. She taught school from 1938 to 1946. Winnie met Doug while he was serving in England during the Second World War. They were married on April 29, 1943. She arrived in Canada on September 5, 1946, and her and Doug made their home in Morris. Winnie was employed for many years by Harry Murray at Murray's General Store, and then by Canada Post until her retirement on October 1, 1982. She made several trips back to England to visit her family. Winnie spent many hours knitting and always enjoyed her garden. She made daily trips to Wilson's to meet with her coffee friends. She loved her cats, and many strays found a good home with her. Winnie was a member of the Women's Institute, Horticultural Society, and the Morris Museum. In accordance with her wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. Interment will take place in Worcester, England. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Morris District Handivan, payable to the Town of Morris, in care ofo Box 326, Morris, MB R0G 1K0, or a charity of one's choice. A sincere thank you to the staff of Red River Valley Lodge and Morris Funeral Home. We Shall Miss You Winnie.
