DONALD (DONNY) HUGO RUSSELL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald (Donny) Hugo Russell who, at the age of 65, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on January 17, 2008. Donny was predeceased by his father Hugo; his sister Anita; father-in-law Fred Yanke and his brothers-in-law, Paul Kernested, Norman Pischke and Lorne Dewar. Honoring his memory, Donny leaves the love of his life of 44 years his wife Shirley; son Kirby (Celina); daughter Kimberly (James); mother Freda and sister Sharon (Louis); brother-in-law Henry Schulz; brother-in-law Larry (Ruth); sisters-in-law Marion, Dorothy (Bill) and Linda (Lorne) and mother-in-law Natalie Yanke as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Donny was born and raised in Moosehorn, MB. Donny worked in a variety of jobs including truck driving in the summers which he often reminisced about in latter years. Donny also had a small hobby farm where he lived and raised his family. Donny was a school teacher for many years and it was a career in which he found a lot of satisfaction. Many of Don's years of teaching were spent at the Fairford School where he made many good friends. He also worked as a teacher at Dauphin River, God's River, Cross Lake, Gimli and Fort Alexander. He was very proud of the many students he taught who went on to good careers. In the summers Don enjoyed working on his hobby farm. Picking stones on his land was a yearly event. Donny had a love for life and enjoyed many past times like bike riding, playing the guitar, going for walks, fishing and cross country skiing. Every fall it was one of Don's greatest pleasures to go out into the bush with his family and cut the fire wood for the following winter. Don also really enjoyed being with his friends and going out for coffee. He was also a voracious reader and spent many hours reading and studying the Bible. Don had a strong faith and love for his Saviour, Jesus Christ. Don was also fascinated with history and especially enjoyed reading about the American Civil War. It was a great pleasure for Don to tour some of the Civil War sites in the United States. Donny was a devoted father and husband and loved his family dearly. He encouraged his children to do the best with their lives and had a strong work ethic. Since his retirement, Donny spent many hours with his son Kirby, and their good friend Henry Dyck, building a log house. Donny was especially proud of putting up the big beams without the aid of a crane. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2008, at the Moosehorn Community Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. Interment to follow in the Moosehorn Baptist Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to World Vision Canada, Suite 34 - 62 Scurfield, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3A9. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Aurora and the staff at the E.
