Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN GARCIA PEREIRA Peacefully on January 19, 2008 John Garcia Pereira passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 75 years. He is survived by his beloved wife Maria; son Vic and his wife Anne; grandchildren Reid and Saige; sisters Fernanda (Alberto) and Ermelinda (Anselmo) of Calgary, Alberta; nieces Lina and Umberta and nephews Victor, George and Louis. John was predeceased by his parents Redolfo and Ana; sister Maria and her husband Manuel. John was born in Pico, Azores on September 3, 1932 and came to Canada in 1957. He worked for CN in Ontario and British Columbia, settling in Calgary. He and Maria were married in November of 1958 but Maria was unable to join John in Canada until 1960. They celebrated the beginning of their family with the birth of Vic in 1961. John suffered a spinal cord injury as a result of an unfortunate accident in 1973. After many months of difficult physiotherapy John was able to walk again. He then opened his own grocery stores with his wife and business-partner, Maria. They ultimately moved to Winnipeg in 1996 to be close to their grandchild, son and daughter-in-law. Two years later their family was completed with the birth of their second grandchild. John was a good husband, father and grandfather who worked very hard all his life and loved to spend time with his family. John will be sadly missed by all who knew him and he will be remembered for his great kindness and generosity to others. Prayers 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2008 at Immaculate Conception Parish, 181 Austin Street North. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008, also at Immaculate Conception Parish. Cremation will follow the Mass. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the wonderful people of Home Care who made such a difference in his life during the past few years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the CNIB Manitoba, Children's Services, 1080 Portage Avenue, R3G 3M3.
