GEORGE (JOE) PAUL SCHMIDT 1920 - 2008 On Monday, January 21, 2008 with his family by his side, George passed away peacefully at the Victoria Hospital after a brief illness. George has gone to join his soul mate, Elaine of 59 years of marriage. George joined and served with the Royal Regina Rifle Regiment from 1939 until the end of the war in 1945. After the war George and a fellow Veteran returned to his friends hometown, Darlingford, MB. There he met and married Elaine Amy. They moved to Winnipeg where they settled down in Fort Rouge and had six children, Fred (Shirley), Corinne (Marvin), Debbie (Barry), Jack (Gail), Kerry and Tannis (Barry). George was a very devoted hard workingman. Often times working two to three jobs to support his family. He retired from Imperial Roadways after many years of service. Along with his aforementioned children, George is survived by the following grandchildren, Cindy, Trevor, Amanda, Andrew, Tammy, Joey, Johnny, Kyle, Danielle; great-grandchildren, Kyla, Brady, Alysia, Kristin, Taia, Tori, Cyrus, Ashley, Bailey, Dylan Brandon, Hunter, Brytnee and Hope. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd., (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. We would like to acknowledge and thank the doctors and staff of 5 South at The Victoria General Hospital.
