JACOB (JAKE) DYCK January 20, 2008 Jake, beloved husband of Sophie, passed away on Sunday, January 20, 2008 after a courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was at his side. Jake will be dearly missed by his devoted wife Sophie (nee Siemens), daughters Elizabeth (Barry) Stillwell, Dianne (Andrew) Brown, Leona (Allan) Froom and grandchildren Lee, Christopher, Hayley, Cole, Nikki, Bryce and Chyanne. He is also survived by a large extended family consisting of his brother Isaac Dyck, brother-in-law Rudy Siemens and sisters-in-law Lusianna Siemens, Evelyn Siemens, Louise Nikkel and many nieces and nephews. Jake was predeceased by his grandson Harley and son-in-law Gilles Guenette, parents Cornelius and Maria, sister Margaret and brothers Cornelius (Mary), Peter (Mary) and John. Jake was born in Osterwick, Russia on December 30, 1920 immigrating to Canada with his family in 1923. Jake grew up in the southern Manitoba communities of Winkler, Neuendorf, Chortitz and Bergfeld. Jake spoke often about his childhood, sharing with his family some of his fondest memories including the mischievous things they would do and having a good laugh afterwards. He was in the Canadian Armed Forces from 1943 to 1946 stationed in England, Holland and Germany. Upon returning to Canada Jake met his future bride Sophie in 1947 whom he married in 1950. Jake was a loving, thoughtful husband and caring father and grandfather always putting his family first. Jake had a great sense of humour always ready with a quick smile and a witty reply. He enjoyed life to the fullest. Funeral Services will be held at the First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Avenue, on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. The family greatly appreciated the care given by the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
