MURRAY PETER KROVATS December 15, 1935 - January 22, 2008 Murray passed away peacefully at his home with family and friends by his side. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife Eleanor of 48 years and their daughter Norine Mitchell (Don), sons Jim Krovats (Wendy) and Neil Krovats (Michaeline); granddaughters Blaire and Drew Mitchell, Julia Krovats and grandsons Nathan Krovats and William Krovats. Murray is survived by his sister Nettie Hebert and sister-in-law, Rose Krovats plus nieces Joan, Paulette, Penny, Carol, Joan and Shirley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Fred and Lillian Binne, niece Christine (Mike) and nephew Alan (Juanita) and Halle. Murray was predeceased by his parents Peter and Teeni, brothers Paul and Harry and niece Gail. Murray will be missed by many dear friends far and wide. Murray was born December 15, 1935 at Portage la Prairie, MB. He attended many schools around Manitoba in railroad towns and graduated from Gordon Bell High School 1955 before attending the University of Manitoba. He sang in operettas and was the Captain in HMS Pinafore at Gordon Bell High School. Murray was a skilled curler. He represented Manitoba in the Canadian High School Championship in 1955. His basement was full of the many trophies he won (even winning a Dalmatian puppy one night which quickly had to find another family). Murray and Eleanor loved curling. They played all over North America, having crazy fun times, making friends everywhere (even if Mur and El scored an 8 ender against them, which they did more than once.) They made bonspieling an art! (The Bunnyspiel was their Masterpiece). Murray spent most of his working career in the plumbing supply industry where he was respected as a knowledgeable hard working man of integrity. He was officially recognized by his peers as a pioneer and builder. Side by side, Murray and Eleanor started Murray Krovats Agency Ltd. in 1965. It was eventually taken over by their sons and the enterprise it has grown into employs over 30 people. Murray loved his cottage and boats (but not the rocks) on the Winnipeg River and there were many happy times spent there with family and friends. Murray and Eleanor followed a dream to White Rock, BC and spent almost 11 years of incredible happiness exploring the beauty of British Columbia and making many friends (mostly ex Prairie Folk). The Peace Arch Curling Club, White Rock Hiking Club and the Koffee Kops replaced their Winnipeg Winter Club for a sense of fun and camaraderie. Missing their children and grandchildren brought them home to Winnipeg in July, 2007. They enjoyed the happy family gatherings that were unfortunately cut short. Murray was a kind gentle man who loved his family with a passion and always looked for the best in people and situations. Murray had an incredible ability to connect with people of all ages and walks of life. He was widely known and loved as Uncle Murr. He loved to dance and sing and was the life of many parties. A night wasn't complete until he danced with his beautiful bride. Wow, could they dance! They were a beautiful and inspiring pair who were devoted to each other. He will be dearly missed but many happy memories will live on in our hearts. The family would like to thank the Palliative Unit for their assistance in the time of need. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with an interment and reception to follow In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Murray's memory to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg R3E 0V9. Arrangements entrusted to: Chapel Lawn Funeral Home 885-9715
