Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM DAVID LAING May 21, 1937 - January 13, 2008 Peacefully in his sleep Bill Laing passed away at his home in Thompson, Manitoba with his dog Maxie by his side. Bill leaves beautiful memories for his daughters Tanna and Sandra (Glenn), Gladys Nielsen, his special lady, and five grandchildren Deana, Jamie, Ryan, Elizabeth and Bobbi who were very dear to his heart. He also leaves three brothers Carl (Lorraine), Jim (Maggie), John (Norma), brother-in-laws Ken, Lorne, Dennis, Larry and sister-in-law Donalda (Chuck) plus many numerous nieces and nephew. Bill was predeceased by his wife of 45 years Loreen in 2005, his parents Milton and Agnes, his nephew Kenny, and his sisters Keay-Ann and Olive. Bill was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba and moved to Thompson in September 1960 where he lived for the past 47 years. Bill worked at Inco from 1960 to 1992 which included many years of volunteer mine rescue. He was a founding volunteer member of the Thompson Fire Department, proudly serving for 35 years. Bill was one of the first recyclers in Thompson and was always doing something to help an organization or someone in need. Bill greeted each day with a smile and loved gardening, traveling, scuba diving, walking, and just chatting with people. A beautiful celebration of Bill's life took place on Friday, January 18 at the Advent Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Sodtke officiating. We would also like to thank: Honorary Pallbearers: Al Meston, Dennis Fancy, Dennis Neill, Ed McTavish, Gary Graff, Glenn Ludwig, Morgan Svendson, and Quentin Nielsen. Ushers: Charlie Bonnett and James Boardman. Honour Guard: Thompson Fire Department Bagpipes: Blair Buchanan, Soloist: Morgan Svendson and The Advent Lutheran Ladies (ELW) Also a special thanks to the R.C.M.P., Thompson Fire and Emergency staff, Dr. Rich, James Boardman from the funeral home and Gary and Esther Graff for their support on the evening of January 13. To SMD Northern office and Darcy Hewak of Word Vision, who made the service accessible by providing CART (Communication Access Real Time) services for the hard of hearing.
