ALFRED ROWLAND NICHOLAS

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALFRED ROWLAND NICHOLAS October 19, 1915 - January 21, 2008 Nic passed away peacefully at Deer Lodge Centre with his family by his side - Doris, David (Allyson), Nathan and Benjamin. He was born in Outlook, SK. He grew up in Lloydminster where he took his education and worked in his father's butcher shop - The Empire Meat Market. His date of engagement with the RCMP was in 1940, Regimental Number 13298. Nic served in the Second World War with the RCMP Provost Corp in North Africa, Italy, Great Britain, and on the troop trains across Canada at the end of the war. He is a hero and survivor of the sinking of the SS Nerissa. Alfred's RCMP postings were Regina, Winnipeg, Clear Lake, Lac Du Bonnet, Norway House, Brandon, Churchill and Dauphin. His honourable discharge was in 1962. Nic went on to Emergency Planning and Operations (EMO) for the Province of Manitoba, which included Flood Emergency Planning. He also worked in Northern Affairs and on the St. James Police Commission. He retired in 1981. On retirement, he worked with Neighbourhood Watch and St. James Elder Aerobics. He enjoyed winters in Mesa. Alfred was a member of No. 4 Legion (St. James), the Masons, and St. Andrew's Anglican Church. He loved his cottage at Victoria Beach. Nic was predeceased by his mother Lillian and father Arthur, his brother Art, sisters Gwen and Grace, plus many beloved brothers and sisters-in-law. He is survived by his immediate family mentioned above, and many loving nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the staff at Tower 3 in Deer Lodge Centre for their gentle and respectful care. In lieu of flowers, Alfred's family requests that donations be made to T3 Deer Lodge Centre, thank you. There will be a memorial service held Friday, May 2, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew's Anglican Church, 2700 Portage Ave., with a luncheon to follow. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave. Alfred's advice to us all was: Always plead not guilty Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN Funeral Home 885-9715
