MICHAEL SMAKULA November 6, 1922 - January 26, 2008 Peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2008, Michael Smakula passed away at St. Boniface General Hospital, after bidding farewell to his family and friends who loved him dearly. Remaining to forever cherish Mike's memory are his daughter Dale; son Allan (Gail); grandchildren, David, Corry, Brian, Shannon, Darren, Angela, and Kelly; as well as his brother Steve (Effie). He was predeceased by his mother and father, first wife Ella (nee Dreger), second wife Adele, brother Tony Kane (wife Margaret), sister Anne Ritchot (husband Ernie), and father and mother-in-law Fred and Hanna Dreger. In compliance with Mike's wishes a memorial service will be held in the spring. Mike was born on November 6, 1922 at his family's home on Manitoba Avenue, to father Harry Smakula, and mother Anne (Hawrysh). The family would like to thank the supportive staff at both the dialysis unit and 7W at the St. Boniface Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, 730 Taylor Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R3M 2K8, or the Canadian Cancer Society (Manitoba Division), 193 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3C 2B7.
