JAMES ALAN BANKS September 24, 1940 - January 26, 2008 Peacefully after a short battle with cancer, Jim passed away at the Health Sciences Centre on Saturday, January 26, 2008 with his family at his side. Jim will be forever remembered by his wife, Vivian; son Lindsay, daughter-in-law Kelly and granddaughter Natalie; daughter Susan and fiancé Chris; siblings Doreen (Jack), Earl (Heather); sisters-in-law Shirley, Louise, Helen (Bill), Marie and Margaret; brothers-in-law Joe (Jean), and Larry. He will be sadly missed by many other relatives, friends and neighbours. Jim was predeceased by his parents Robert and Doris Banks; brothers Bob, Cliff and Don, as well as his in-laws Fedor and Sophia Olynyk, brothers-in-law John, Mike and Arthur, and sisters-in-law Alice and Rosalie. Jim was an avid jogger and bridge player and the highlight of a trip to a bridge tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa was meeting his idol Warren Buffet, as well as obtaining his Life Master designation. He and Vivian enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Hawaii, Europe, other US States and across Canada. Jim enjoyed music, movies, reading and attending Goldeyes baseball games. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses (especially Lisa) and other staff on the neurosurgery ward at the Health Sciences Centre for their kindness and compassion. Jim's funeral service will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the Sturgeon Creek United Church, 207 Thompson Drive, with a reception to follow in the church hall, following the interment in Chapel Lawn Cemetery, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9 or to a charity of one's choice. We will miss you Jim, Dad and Grampa Jim.
