PHILIP MONEYAS Peacefully and surrounded by family, friends and love, Philip returned to the arms of our heavenly Father on Sunday, January 27, 2008. Besides his wife of 51 years, Lorraine, Philip will be lovingly missed by their children Bernie (Marcel) Hardisty, Maureen, Angie (Dale) Hardisty, Candace (Ian) Bushie, Wayne (Roxanne), Michael Moneyas, Winston Bouchie, Winslow Bouchie, Melvina (Wesley) Moneyas and Sherman Scott. Also by his brothers Henry (Alice) and Norman (Beatrice), and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and many friends. Philip was predeceased by daughter Kimberley, parents Mary and Joseph, siblings Sarah, Florence, Mary, Charlie, Peter, James and Frank. Philip was born on April 29, 1938 and lived his entire life at Hollow Water. He began his working years trapping with his father and at the age of 15 he began his career as a commercial fisherman. During off seasons he cut pulpwood and worked in the sawmill. While continuing to commercial fish, Philip also managed the Medical Transportation Service for the reserve for thirty years until he retired in November 2007 due to health problems. Philip served his community with endless energy and pride. He loved to play and coach baseball and another one of his passions was to jig and square dance. He spent unlimited hours teaching the young to dance. Philip also enjoyed organizing and taking part in Black Island Days each year, helping community members return to Black Island for a week of camping, picking blueberries, dancing and living like their ancestors. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Laurie Cook, Dr. Kuegle, the Concordia Hospital Emergency staff, Dr. Ted St. Goddard, the nurses and helpers on the 8th floor, St. Boniface Hospital. Special thanks to the Ma Mawi Centre and the St. Boniface Aboriginal Health Services. Wakes will be held at the Hollow Water Band Hall on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, January 30 to February 1, 2008. Funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Hollow Water Band Hall, with cremation to follow. To my husband, our dad, papa, great-papa, and friend, thank you for all you have given us. MAANO Arrangements by Prairieland Funeral Home.
