IRENE VAN BUREN (nee CARPICK) Peacefully, with her family at her side Irene Van Buren passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2008, at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home. Irene was predeceased by her husband George (Van), her daughter Sandra, her brothers Lawrence, Philip, William, Jack, and Todd, and sister-in-law Annette. She will be sadly missed by her daughter Paula (John Schamber); her grandchildren Jocelyn (Darren) Johnson, Keith Bridger, and Eric Van Buren (Crystal); great-grandchildren Kristian, Gregory, and Monica Johnson; sister Helen (Graham) Wardley; brother Vic (Pat); sisters-in-law Eva, Jean and Anne, many nieces and nephews and her many friends, especially those she had in Richmond Gardens. Irene was born in The Pas on September 22, 1921. She grew up, was married and raised her children there. The CN transferred Van to Dauphin, where they lived for a few years before retiring to Winnipeg. Irene was a charming and witty lady, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed cooking, sewing for her daughters, gardening, knitting, and reading. She excelled at scrabble and crossword puzzles. Her many nieces and nephews considered her a favourite aunt. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., in Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Drive with Father Carl Tarnopolski V.G. officiating. Interment will follow in the Assumption Chapel Mausoleum, 3990 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6, or a charity of one's choice. The Coutu family in care of arrangements: E.J COUTU CO.
