Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKARL GUNNAR NIELSEN Peacefully, after a lengthy illness; it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Gunnar Nielsen on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, his place of residence. Remaining to forever cherish Gunnar's memory are his former wife and dear friend Audrey; son Karl (Kim); daughter Dawn Friesen; grandchildren Tyler, Brittany, Kaitlin and Trevor; great-grandson Danté; sister Nellie Brehn; brothers Eric (Marge), Harry (Mary) and Leo (Marg); sister-in-law Doreen Nielson; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Henry and Kay. Born in Denmark on December 6, 1925, Gunnar immigrated to Canada at an early age with his parents and siblings. He went to school in Steep Rock. In 1948 he married Audrey Shiells and they had two children, Karl and Dawn. Gunnar served in the army in Holland. He was employed at Canada Cement, first in Fort Whyte for a short time, and then in Steep Rock until his retirement. Gunnar enjoyed boating, hunting and fishing and was a commercial fisherman for many years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Steep Rock Curling Club. In compliance with Gunnar's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. Special thanks to Ed and Elaine Newfield for their caring support over the years and to the staff at the Deer Lodge Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gunnar's memory to the Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 0L3. Gunnar will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
