KATHLEEN (KAY) PALMQUIST
Born: Oct 17, 1917
Date of Passing: Jan 31, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKATHLEEN (KAY) PALMQUIST After a long and full life, and with family by her side, our mom and grandmother passed away peacefully at River Park Gardens on January 31, 2008. She was born on October 17, 1917 and grew up on the family farm in Transcona. The farm remained an important part of her life and was the scene of many happy family gatherings over the years. Equally important were the life-long friendships she made through her involvement with the Women's Auxiliary of the Navy League of Canada and with Adcom Agency. As a young woman Kay worked in Winnipeg at Dominion Business College, MacDonald Aircraft and Globelight Batteries. Her career really began, however, after her marriage to Francis when she devoted her life to raising their family of eight. She was never happier than when surrounded by a crowd of busy grandchildren. Nothing they did would surprise or faze her. The door to her home was always open and there was always room for one more at the dinner table. Kay's gentle and caring nature drew others towards her. People who met and talked to her only briefly would remember and inquire about her years afterward. Kay is survived by her sister Betty and brother Tom (Terry), and by sons and daughters, Jim (Georgine), Carol Northam (Alfred), Ray, Nancy Chapman (John), Shelia (John Jamieson), Lorne (Monica) and Bette Jean (Rick Simpson). She was a proud grandmother to Greg (Lori), Don (Susan), Wendy, Trevor, Kim, Aaron, David, Garrett, Stephen, Clarie (Mathieu), John Paul, Joel, Ryan, Rachel, Cari and Tony, and great-grandmother to Pamela and Kyle. She is predeceased by brothers Charlie, Jim and Alex, by sister Margaret, by daughter Edith and son-in-law Lynn and by Francis. The family would like to thank the staff at River Park Gardens for the care and compassion they showed towards mom during her stay there. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to River Park Gardens, 735 St. Anne's Road, Winnipeg, MB R2N 0C4, where a garden bench will be placed in her memory. A public viewing will be held at Thomson Funeral Home, 669 Broadway, on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m., at Thomson Funeral Home.
