EDWARD BERNARD NOVAK On Tuesday, January 29, 2008, our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle quietly passed away at home in his 93rd year. Dad will be sadly missed by his children Marilyn (Bert) DeLeeuw, Lorne (Wendy) Novak, grandchildren/great-grand-children Chris DeLeeuw and Rob DeLeeuw, Bryan (Angie) and Hunter Novak, Jon Novak and daughter Emily and Laura Novak. Dad is also survived by his brother Frank (Helen) Novak and sister Helen (Norman) Wensel and many nieces and nephews. His dear friends overseas, Michael (Ria) Coomans (Netherlands), Rina (Gerald) Lammersen (New Zealand), their families and many friends will also miss Dad. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Evelyn in 1979, his second wife Jean in 2003, his grandson Kyle Novak in 2001, his sister Katie Burke, and brothers Walter, John, Joe and Charlie Novak. Dad was born in Winnipeg and raised in the North End. As a young man, he worked for 11 years delivering newspapers for the Winnipeg Free Press for which he received a gold watch for providing perfect service. At 30 years of age, Dad bravely served his country in the Second World War as a corporal with the The Lincoln and Welland Regiment, Infantry Tank in the Fourth Division, Second Canadian Army. He helped to liberate Belgium, the Netherlands and fought in Germany where he was wounded. He was honoured to receive recognition from the Dutch Government as one of the Canadians to help liberate their country. On his return home, and until retirement, he worked at the C.P.R. Weston Shops for 33 years. Dad was a good hearted person who loved his family, was always willing to help others and cared that people were not excluded. He lived a full life enjoying music, traveling, cooking, dancing, bowling, curling, carpentry work and a good joke. For many years he belonged to several bowling leagues and was a member of the Valour Road Curling Club. In his senior years, Dad served on the Executive of the Thistle Curling Club and helped to set up their curling schedules. His love of fun and gift of organization eventually led him to organizing bingo games and other activities at Betelstadur, where he has resided for the last 20 years. Dad was especially honoured just one week ago to receive a certificate as one of the original tenants at Betelstadur. We will miss his quick humour, his kind and caring manner, his gentle heart and his love. The family would like to thank his dear friends Elizabeth Taylor and Art and Florette Jonasson for their help and support in his later years. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service and interment will be scheduled in the spring. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice. Every tear will be a memory till we meet again, Dad! Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • Eddy was a dear friend of our family. He helped on my Dad's dairy as a young man before going off to war. After the war he and his family would come to the farm regularly, as my Mom and his wife Evelyn were best friends. I always remember Eddie being a real gentleman. My parents always spoke so highly of him. He and Marilyn visited with my Mom every summer. We always looked forward to their visits to rehash past wonderful memories. We will miss him dearly, but, he is now back with his real love, Evelyn. - Posted by: Bob De Meyer (Acquaintance) on: Feb 03, 2008
