KATHERINE (TINA) LETKEMAN August 26, 1919 - January 31, 2008 Peacefully, with her family by her side, Katherine (Tina) Letkeman, beloved wife of Abram Letkeman passed away January 31, 2008 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach, MB at the age of 88. Mom was born August 26, 1919 in Steinfeld, Russia to Peter and Justina Nikkel. The family moved to Canada when mom was four, settling in Rosengard, Manitoba. On September 25, 1959 she married Abram B. Letkeman and they began their life together farming near Ste. Elizabeth. In 1962 they purchased a farm in the Tourond area raising chickens and growing a variety of crops. Mom enjoyed farming along side dad and preferred working outside as opposed to house work and cooking. She loved gardening and flowers and no matter where they lived mom and dad always had large gardens where they grew a variety of vegetable and fruits. Mom had a great love for music. She could always be found listening to and humming along with gospel music or Eduard Klassen playing the harp. Mom and dad did some traveling in their early retirement years traveling to Ecuador, Paraguay, Bolivia and Texas. Every year she looked forward to spending a week at Gimli Bible Camp seniors camp. In 1992 mom and dad retired to Steinbach where they lived until 1997 when they moved to Silver Courts in Niverville. Mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 1998 but was struggling with many of the symptoms for years prior to the diagnosis. In 2002 it became apparent it was no longer safe for mom and dad to live on their own so they moved to Rest Haven Nursing Home. Besides her husband she leaves to mourn her passing her son Henry and wife Lisa, grandchildren, Josiah and Olivia of Niverville, her sisters, Margaret (Richard) Kwast of Winkler, Nettie (Henry) Warkentin of Caroline, AB, her brother Jake (Tina) Nikkel of Steinbach and brother-in-law Jake Hildebrandt of Steinbach. She was predeceased by her sister Mary. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Sunday School Mission, 200 - 189 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg, MB Canada R2L 1L7 or Haven Group, (Rest Haven Nursing Home), 177 Woodhaven Ave., Steinbach, MB R5G 1K7. The funeral service will be held Monday, February 4, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church in Niverville, MB with viewing prior to the service. Interment at Hespeler Cemetery. The family wishes to thank all the staff of Rest Haven Nursing Home for their love and support over the years. Arrangements by Birchwood funeral chapel 1-204-346-1030 or 1-888-454-1030
