Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE WOLOSZYN (nee KUPCHENKO) July 27, 1924 February 1, 2008 It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Myrtle Woloszyn, on February 1, 2008 at the Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg, at the age of 83. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by her three children, sons, Greg of Winnipeg, Jerry (Elaine), of Winnipeg, and Jordan Blake (Whitney), of Winnipeg, her two grandchildren, Kristen (Eddie), and Kerri (Graeme). She also leaves to mourn her passing, her sister Mary Ewaski of Estevan, SK, her niece Lisa Arnold (Ken), of Estevan, SK, their two children, Aleshia of Estevan, SK and Surgiss (Kerrie), of New Zealand, and her nephews Bryan (Gayle), their son Damian (Tanya) and children Madison, Garren, Mason of Hanna, AB, Michael of Estevan, SK, and Wayne and Ian Harvey of Calgary, AB. Myrtle was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, on August 21, 1993, her parents, Harry and Elizabeth Kupchenko, her brother Harry, sisters Victoria Hill and Zenovia Harvey and daughter-in-law, Angie Woloszyn. Myrtle was born on July 27, 1924 in Bienfait, Saskatchewan, the youngest of Harry and Elizabeth's four daughters. She spent her childhood and early teen years living on her parents' farm in Bienfait, helping with the endless chores that the hard life on a farm at this time demanded, and going to school in the white brick schoolhouse. Her recollections of childhood were always related with great fondness, of her love of acting in school plays, playing on the girls baseball team The Bienfait Bees , and the closeness she had with her sisters. After graduating from high school at Bienfait High in 1942, Myrtle enrolled in a secretarial course in Regina, Saskatchewan, longing to see what city life had to offer. After completing her course, she worked at Simpson Sears in Regina, Dominion Electric in Estevan before moving to Winnipeg in 1945 where she worked at General Finance and later met and fell in love with John Woloszyn. John and Myrtle were married on June 29, 1946, in Winnipeg, where they settled and raised a family and were married for 47 years at the time of John's death. Myrtle was a creative soul, her artistic abilities expressed through her oil paintings, her poetry, her flower gardens, her baking, through the intricate and amazing gingerbread houses that she constructed every Christmas. She was proud to have her poems published in the Manitoba Society Of Seniors Journal and the Canadian Pacific Pensioners Association Newsletter. She was a long-standing member of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the same small church where she was married and her children were baptized. Myrtle will always be remembered by all those who knew her, no matter what age, for her great sense of humour, her easy manner, and for her resilience to whatever life handed her. She has left an indelible mark on the lives she has touched. She will not be forgotten. The family would like to thank the staff at Seven Oaks General Hospital for their compassion and care of our mother and grandmother in our most trying time of need. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel in Winnipeg, with the Very Rev. John A. Melnyk officiating. Interment to follow at All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be sons, Jordan, Greg, and Jerry, Gino Anania, Eddie Chin, Graeme Hill, Dennis Miller and Barry Halipchuk.
