BERNADETTE GLORIA SEMENCHUK Bernadette Semenchuk left this world to enter a new one on Saturday, February 2, 2008. She was predeceased by her infant son Robert, her sister Jeanette, and her parents. She leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend Borden; her children William (Nadine), Thomas (Renée); Ronald (Elizabeth), grandchildren, Jennifer, Michelle, Bobby, Scott, Ashley, Trent, Aimée, Julie, Alexander, Trina, and great-granddaughter Nevah. Berna (also referred to as Bernie by many of her friends) was the oldest child of Anne and John Forkheim and from an early age showed a natural ability to care for others. She was a wonderful big sister to Jeanette, Joseph (Elizabeth) and Edward (Vera) her entire life. Berna was born in Winnipeg and lived her childhood days at 543 Redwood Ave. She attended St. Joseph's School and spent many hours playing with her sister Jeanette and good friend Annie Streilein. She married Borden in 1953 and spent many happy, full years on Boyd Ave. with their three sons, Billy, Tommy, and Ronny. During these years she was the Nomad/Hockey mom and had very little time for herself but never complained. She was also the bell lady at Shaughnessy Park School that children ran to whenever they needed help. After being outnumbered 4-1 for over 20 years, Berna was eventually joined by her first daughter-in-law, first granddaughter Jennifer, and her first great-granddaughter Nevah, and seven more female Semenchuks. Berna's faith was admirable. She was a devoted Roman Catholic and served many hours volunteering with the Catholic Women's League. Even as her health failed her, she continued going to 5:00 p.m. Mass at St. Joseph's Church every Saturday to thank God for every good thing in her life. At the end of her life almost everyone referred to her fondly as Granny . We will miss her fantastic cooking, perogies, petashkerr, and the perfect birthday and Christmas presents. Though her body has left us, her spirit will still be here at family dinners, Saturday breakfasts, and pass the Ace games (she won the last one) and episodes of her favorite soap opera General Hospital. The family would like to thank the dialysis and ICU staff at Seven Oaks Hospital for their services and kindness. Thank you to Father Kevin Smith for sharing prayers and blessings at the hospital. Cremation has taken place. A mass celebrating Bernadette's life will take place on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 355 St. Andrews St. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Seven Oaks Hospital, 2300 McPhillips St. R2V 3M3 Thank you granny for your humour, generosity and love. We love you and will miss you dearly. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
