ARTHUR JAMES HUGGINS (ART) Peacefully with his family by his side at Seven Oaks Hospital, Art entered Eternal Rest at the age of 98 years on February 1, 2008. Born on June 3, 1909, the eldest son of James and Nellie Huggins. Art grew up in the Oak Point, MB, area and farmed with his father until the early 1930s. He met and married Mary in 1935 and they took up residence in Winnipeg. They celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary in November 2007. Beside his loving wife Mary, he is survived by his beloved children, Joan Donald (Glen) of Winnipeg, James (Dianne) of Calgary, AB, and Linda Schweitz (Grant Gieg) of Winnipeg. He also leaves to mourn his loss, his beloved grandchildren, Bruce, Karen, Kimberly, Scott, Lee, Corinne, Rhonda, Karla, Matthew, Jennifer, Heather and Christopher, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, his daughter-in-law Dianna of Winnipeg and his younger sister Roslyn of Surrey, BC. Predeceased by an infant daughter Judith in 1946 and youngest son Norman in 2005, his parents James and Nellie, brothers, Bill and Andy, sisters, Lillian, Aileen, Alice and Mildred. Art joined the Canadian Armed Forces in September 1939 with the Royal Canadian Corps of Engineers 1st Division, and served over seas in England, Sicily and Holland. He was employed with the Department of National Defense after the war, and worked as a carpenter for 26 years until his retirement in 1971. He and Mary then moved to Inwood, MB, where he enjoyed putting his carpentry skills to work on projects of his own, as well as helping out his family, friends and neighbours. He enjoyed the country life with Mary until they decided to move to The Okanogan Valley in 1989, first to Penticton, BC, then to Vernon, BC, in 1991. Although they enjoyed the Okanogan they decided it was time to come back to their roots in Winnipeg in 1995. Although Dad's health started to fail in the past few years, he kept his great sense of humour. He was a loving, wonderful Husband, Dad and Grandpa and will be so sadly missed by all of us, especially his lovey's. Special thanks to the Homecare Team of workers and nurses, Melany and Tammie-Lee for their compassion and concern in making dad's last days as comfortable as possible. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at Brookside Cemetery at a later date. Flowers are gratefully declined. If family and friends so desire, donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. I'd like the memory of me to be a happy one. I'd like to leave an afterglow of smiles, when life is done, I'd like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days, I'd like the tears of those who grieve to dry before too long, And cherish those very special memories to which I belong. Arrangements entrusted to: Glen Eden Funeral Home 4477 Main Street 338-7111
