STEPHEN STANLEY TONI January 14, 1914 February 2, 2008 On Saturday, February 2, 2008, Stephen died peacefully at the Riverview Health Centre, surrounded by the love of his wife and his children. Left to cherish Stephen's life and memory are his loving wife of 67 years, Sophie; children, Barbara (Ted), Bernard (Audrey), Conrad (Maureen), Stephen (Robin), Elizabeth (Chris) and Christopher (Ginny); grandchildren, Shannon (Edmund) and Stephen, Lauren (Mike), Chet, Jessica (Murray) and Susan, Peter (Diane), Sarah (Rob) and David, Matthew, Daniel and Nathan, Will, Sydney and Thomas; great grandchildren Mia and Logan. He was predeceased by his father Bernard (1950), mother Pauline (1988); sister Eleanor (2005) and brother Henry (2006). Stephen was born in Winnipeg on January 14, 1914. He graduated from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Medicine in 1936, interned at St. Boniface Hospital and spent his first year as a physician in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. Steve was then invited to Altona, Manitoba where he began a lifetime of general practice, delivering more than 4000 babies to several generations of families in the Altona area. He retired in 1983. Stephen was an honorary lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place, with Rev. Fr. Darrin Gurr, presiding. A private family interment will be held in Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, 4387 Main Street. Flowers are gratefully declined.
