JOSEPH MARTIN CHMELNICKI Released from his pain, on February 3, 2008, at age 79 after a lengthy battle with diabetes. It was a battle that he fought with determined bravery and quiet dignity. Joseph was born in Melrose, Manitoba to Joseph Sr. and Katherine. In 1952, he married Nellie Shott and they resided in Melrose for most of their lives. In addition to farming, he also worked at Drewerys, then Carling O'Keefe Brewery and lastly Molson Breweries. When he retired, he continued to reside in Melrose until his illness. He loved to fish, hunt and be outdoors. Surviving him are his children, Lorraine (Jordan) of Calgary, David (Debbie, children Jeff and Kelly) of Dugald, as well as his sister Helen Hill, of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan. Joseph also leaves numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by Nellie, and his sister Emily. Also gone before him were close friends Ann, Jean and Sophie. The family would like to thank the staff at the Tudor House Personal Care Home in Selkirk, for their kindness and care and for becoming a part of Joe's extended family. Sincere thanks also to Drs. Lindenschmidt and Demsas for their compassionate care and to all those that visited with Joseph at Tudor House, especially Joan Towns, Ted Lismer and Rev. Brent Elliott. Joseph, could never turn his back on an unwanted animal or stray, they always found a home and a good life with him. If so desired, donations may be made in his memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, R3T 0R3. In keeping with Joseph's wishes, cremation has taken place. Private interment will be at the Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
