MORRIS HARES Peacefully on February 5, 2008, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Morris Hares, aged 97 years, of Selkirk, MB. Morris was born in East Selkirk on October 16, 1910, to immigrant parents Adolph and Merriam. He attended Luxton School and St. Johns Tech. He enjoyed playing lacrosse, soccer and football, sang with Luxton school choir, played violin with sister Edith, drums with the Sea Cadets and harmonica with Selkirk District Senior Harmonicats for 24 years. He had served with the RCAF during the Second World War from 1940 to 1946 with #5 A.O.S. and had been stationed in Winnipeg, Brandon, Ridgley Bombing Range and in England. Until his passing, at 97 he was the oldest member of the ANAF, Branch 151 in Selkirk, holding membership for over 50 years. Morris had been employed at Bell Bottling, Brown's Bread and Town of Selkirk. Morris was predeceased by his parents; brothers Joe, Bill and Leo; sisters Edith and Louise; grandson Trevor; sister-in-law Velma Riley; brothers-in-law Gordon Bowser, George Riley, Frank Hooker, Bert Mitchell and Gilles Trudeau. He leaves surviving his wife of 65 years, Laura, son Allan (Karen) and family Tracey and boys Tyson and Bryce, Leigh (Macushla), Sadie and Hamish of Australia, Cale (Dannie) of Winnipeg, Scott (Jennifer) of Surrey, BC; Marianne and family of Blackfalls, AB, Marcia (Kent), Courtney and Hunter; Kim, Todd and foster children, Darcy, Allie and Heaven of Edmonton; Debra (Willie) Loutit of East Selkirk with Ben (Stephanie) and their son Logan; Lisa (Darren) Lazaruk; niece Gerhardine (Darrin) Kohut and daughters Andrea and Adrienne; sisters-in-law Grace Mitchell, Ruth Hooker and Mary Bowser; and many nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Avenue, with Rev. Deborah Vitt officiating. A private family interment will precede the service at St. Clements Cemetery. Special thanks to Dad's homecare workers, especially his girls, Sandy and Judy, for making his stay at home so much easier for Dad and Mom.
