Date of Passing: Feb 04, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY VELMA PATTERSON (KURAN) With great sadness we announce the peaceful departure of our dearly beloved mother, grandmother and sister, at home on Monday, February 4, 2008. Mary was predeceased by her husband George, her parents and brothers, Raymond and Robert. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Patricia Patterson and Carol Reid, also her loving grandchildren, Kimberley and James Reid and brothers, Victor and Lionel Kuran. Mary was born in the Whitemouth district and as a young girl moved with her parents to the farm at Balmoral, MB. She attended school at Balmoral and Teulon Collegiate, which was followed by graduation as a Registered Nurse from the Grace Hospital. Her track record, as a nurse was one of excellence and affectionate dedication. During the war she acted as Second in Command at a war munitions plant hospital. Post war nursing found her in operating rooms in Winnipeg, Montreal and Edmonton. Mary loved entertaining and her witty humour was a positive strength to family and her many friends. She and her husband George were global travellers, which resulted in many post travel sessions of pleasant social discourses. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street. Viewing will be held from 9:30 - 10:00 a.m. Cremation will follow with a private interment at a later date. As expressions of sympathy if friends so desire, donations may be made to the John Black Memorial Fund, 898 Henderson Highway Winnipeg, MB, R2K 3T4, or to a charity of your choice. The Sailing Ship I am standing on a seashore. A ship in the bay lifts her anchor, spreads her white sails to the morning breeze and starts out upon the ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength, and I stand and watch her until she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and ship mingle with each other. Then someone at my side says. There, she's gone Gone Where! Gone from sight, that is all. Just at the moment there are other eyes watching her coming and other souls taking up the glad shout. There, she's coming! And that is dying. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
