Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARVIN DANIEL DANIELSON Marvin Danielson was released from his suffering on February 4, 2008, at the Gimli Community Health Centre. He was predeceased by Louise, his parents D. Helgi and J. Gudrun (Gudmundson) Danielson, sisters and brothers-in-law Jonina and Grant Eaman, Sigurlin and Sverre Sam Roed and Albert Bud Melsted, and nephew Lyle Roed. He is survived by his children, Duane Marvin Marty Danielson and Terese Maureen Liles; grandchildren Shane, Zachary, Elijah, Joshua, and Sarah Danielson and Shawna (Evan) Sadler and six great-grandchildren; his sister Lilja Melsted and three generations of nieces and nephews. Marvin was born in Gimli, Manitoba, on January 17, 1922. He spent his first years in Brekka, the farm homesteaded by his paternal grandparents in the 1890s, before moving to the farm across the road. He was schooled in Gimli, leaving at the age of 19 to join the RCAF. On a posting to Calgary, he met and married his wife Louise Gross in March 1943. After his release from the Air Force, they returned to Gimli where both their children were born. Marvin had a varied career. After working as a meteorologist, dairy farmer and salesman, he became an agent for Prudential Insurance, winning many top sales awards. In 1971, he returned to farming, taking over the family farm from his ailing father. He continued to work the land until he retired and turned his business acumen to developing some of his land for residential use. Marvin had a lifelong love of music and in retirement joined the senior men's choir and band. He also loved dancing and was a popular partner at local dances in earlier days. Marvin loved animals and was blessed with the company of many canine companions throughout his life. He was very fond of young children and delighted in visits with his grand and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was very interested in people and enjoyed good company and a good joke. He appreciated the faithful support of many good friends and relatives. The family would like to thank those friends and relatives and Gimli Health Community Centre staff who showed caring and compassion for Marvin during his illness. In a final gesture of caring, Marvin has donated his body to the University of Manitoba in the hope of aiding research into Parkinson's, the disease from which he suffered for many years. Rest in peace, Elskun. A memorial servcice will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 8 (today) at Gimli Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or the Betel Home Foundation, Box 10, Gimli, MB R0C 1B0. What man doesn't wish to be a combination of James Coburn, Steve McQueen and the Duke. Marvin Danielson lived under the image of these idols, yet it wouldn't take much for the soft side in marvin to appear for a friend in need..a sad dog needing a home...or a smile and laughter of a child. - Posted by: Shane danielson (grandson) on: Jul 06, 2015
