GEORGE FORTNEY 1913 - 2008 Peacefully, with loving family by his side, George passed away at the age of 95 years. He was predeceased by his parents, six brothers and two sisters. He will never be forgotten by his loving wife of 65 years, Joyce, his daughters Tonie, Josie, Sharon, son Mark (Linda), grandchildren, Greg, Stephen, Keith, Liza, Michael, Meaghan, Alex and six great-grandchildren. He was born in Rockwood, MB, raised in rural Manitoba for the early part of his life and settled in Winnipeg to raise his family. George was a fiercely proud Manitoban who could trace his roots back to the very beginnings of the Province. George served with the RCAF in the Second World War, volunteering early and serving for the duration. He always considered his service in England a blessing as this was where he met the love of his life, Joyce. George worked for the Government as a Power Engineer for 20 years, retiring in 1978. Upon retirement, George took his hobby of painting and turned it into his art, becoming a consummate artist, creating landscapes of the Province he loved. He was also a passionate follower of both politics and sports yet nothing defined him more than his infinite love and boundless loyalty for his family. All of his geese are swans A private memorial service has been planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to the Riverview Health Centre. Although I never met him, I would like to let it be known how grateful I am that he put together a family tree. This information was given to me by Jennette in 2005. This information was instrumental in helping my sister obtain her Metis status which was very important to her as she was adopted at birth and was looking for information on her heritage at that time. My prayers go out to the family. Sincerely, Gail (great-granddaughter of Alex Fortney, and granddaughter of Louis) - Posted by: Gail Oborne (Family) on: Mar 02, 2008
