Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANN (ANKY) SMITH Ann Smith, 92, passed away on January 29, 2008 in Toronto, Ontario. Born in 1915 in Calgary, Alberta to Leah and Isaac Marks, Anky (Ann) was the youngest and last remaining of ten siblings, a generation which spanned 113 years. She married Henry Smith in 1940 and they settled in Winnipeg where they made their home. After only 13 years of marriage Henry died suddenly and left Anky to raise their three children. She was a loving, devoted and very supportive parent and took great pride in her children and their accomplishments throughout her life. Anky was an avid basketball player, ice skater and tennis player in her youth and golfer in her later years. She enjoyed and had regular card games playing bridge, canasta and Mah Jong. She was a member of the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue where she was active in the Sisterhood in her younger years, and a member of Hadassah. Anky is survived by her children, Gary, Marsha Sattin (Graham), and Arnold (Francie); grandchildren, Stephen, Zev, Jeffrey, Harris (Jocelyn), Jennifer and Lindsay; sisters-in-law Ruth Braunstein and Marilyn Marks; and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to caregivers Merly and Celia whose exceptional care and devotion added greatly to the quality of Anky's life this last year. Funeral services were held in Winnipeg at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on January 31, 2008 officiated by Rabbi Pinsker. Pallbearers were Murray Blankstein, Ellen Hamburg, Jerry Namak, Jeffrey Sattin, Zev Smith and Robert Tapper. If so desired donations may be made to the Ann Smith Memorial Fund of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba (204) 477-7520.
