WILLIAM MURDOCK MCKENNA STEVENSON ELIZABETH GWENDOLYN STEVENSON It is with great sadness that we announce the deaths of our parents, Elizabeth Gwendolyn Stevenson, age 67, and William Murdock McKenna Stevenson, age 69, of Chapala Mexico. Mom passed away unexpectedly in hospital in Guadalajara Mexico on May 20, 2007 following an injury. Dad passed away, at the home of his daughter in Thunder Bay, ON, on January 20, 2008 following a lengthy battle with cancer. Mom was born February 27, 1940 to William and Charlotte Lodge of Point du Bois, MB. Dad was born February 28, 1938 to Charles and Ellen Stevenson of Rivers, MB. They were married in Calgary on December 14, 1964 living there and then in Toronto before finally settling in London, ON where they remained until their retirement in 2001. Mom was always very outgoing. She loved gardening, curling, golfing and traveling. She enjoyed being with people and learning about other places and cultures. She was very active in the development of junior curling in London and remained a competitive curler up until she traded in her Ashams for golf clubs and headed for Mexico. Dad, following in the footsteps of Grandpa Lodge, was a mason and a member of St. John's Lodge No. 20 in London. He enjoyed politics, golf and travel and the occasional social curling event (when mom made him go). If truth were told, Dad was most comfortable curled up on his couch reading a good non-fiction book or watching CNN or true-life documentaries on TV. We will all miss his sense of humour. In 2001 mom retired from her career as an Administrative Assistant at TWR Adjusters in London and dad from his career as Claims Manager for the Guarantee Company of North America in Woodstock. Their mutual love of golf and travel brought them to Lake Chapala, Mexico where they found a community of good friends. They purchased a beautiful home overlooking the lake and retired permanently to the warmth of the sun and of the Mexican people. Mom and dad are survived by their son Cameron, of Woodstock, ON and their daughter Tara and her partner Paul Hirtle of Thunder Bay, ON; their granddaughters, Caitlin of Penetanguishine, ON, Courtney of Woodstock, ON, and grandsons, Britton, Palmer, and Parker of Thunder Bay, ON. Mom is survived by her sister Mildred Byman of Calgary, AB. Dad is survived by his sisters, Lorraine and husband Jack Dillabough of Beausejour, MB and Eleanor and husband Rick Robson and brother Edward and his wife Diane all of Winnipeg, MB. They are further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Although Mom and Dad loved Canada they vowed never to endure another Canadian winter and as per their request will be returned to their home in Mexico. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held in Lake Chapala at a future date.
