Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN ALBERT HAGGERTY August 18, 1929 - February 4, 2008 Our dad, grand dad, great-granddad, husband and friend passed away on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Concordia Hospital after a courageous battle with lung disease. Left with wonderful memories are his wife Christina, daughters, Linda (Michel), and Patti (Ted), grandchildren, Chantal (Cory), Natalie (Jordan), Steven (Jen), Ben and Stephanie and six great-grandchildren, one brother Tom Haggerty, sister Mary Friesen; stepchildren Chris (Bob), Shirley (Mel), Bev (Ross), Larry (Carole) Mervin and Vincent, grandchildren Debbie, Jamie (Monika), Gord, Starlyn, (Justin) and Jordan, and four great-grandchildren. Also priceless friends Andy and Lorril Vielfaure. Dad was born in Kemnay, Manitoba where he lived until the age of 14. Dad often told us stories of how he rode his horse to school. He worked as a hydro lineman and later joined the armed forces. During his years in the forces he lived in a variety of places, Kingston, Winnipeg, and Shilo. After his early retirement due to an injury he moved to Rivers and then Brandon where he worked at Westbran as a foreman. He looked back on these years fondly and took great pride of the crews he worked with. After his retirement, Christina and Dad moved to Ellie. Soon after moving started working at Agassiz Boys Home in Portage-la-Prairie. Dad had many stories about working with the youth there and enjoyed giving tips to his daughter and granddaughter on how to deal with hard to deal with students. He retired and he and Christina moved to Winnipeg were they lived until the time of his passing. Dad loved fishing and his countless hours carving and visiting with his many friends at Holy Redeemer Church Carving Club. Dad had a lot of friends everywhere he went. His grandson Ben was amazed on outings to lumber yards, the bank or even the local parts store how many people knew him by name. Dad was predeceased by his father Kenneth Haggerty, mother Mae Haggerty (Airey), niece Layla Shiver, sister-in-law Elaine Haggerty, brother-in-law Harry Friesen. Viewing will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on February 9, 2008 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. and a memorial service will be held March 29, 2008 at Chapel Lawn at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers please give to a charity of your choice.
