Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years, Elsie, son Brian (Alison) and daughter Carol. He is survived by his sisters, Mary Uskiw, Olga Banish and Sophie Roth and brothers-in-law Leo and Ken Ewanochko. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and very special children Kirklan and Kasey Lycar and Jamie and Paige Mason. Peter was predeceased by his parents, Teenie and Samuel and brothers Nick (Edith), Harry (Irene), John (Pauline) and Mike, as well as his brothers-in-law John Paluck, Henry Banish, Frank Roth and John Uskiw. Peter was born on July 10, 1928 in Tyndall, Manitoba. At an early age he left home to work at numerous jobs throughout the country. He was a hard worker and his hands were never idle. It was while working in Elma, Manitoba that he met his wife Elsie. They moved to Selkirk in 1953 where Peter was employed at Abex Industries and later at Manitoba Hydro from where he retired. Peter was an avid sports person and participated in curling, hunting, fishing and bowling. He especially enjoying the many years he played baseball. In later years he enjoyed watching his favorite sports. Peter was member of the Selkirk Game and Fish Association, the Selkirk volunteer Fire Department, the Holy Eucharist Church and the McDonalds 7:00 a.m. coffee gang. He also enjoyed volunteering at blood donor clinics. Peter had many fond memories of the years spent at the strawberry farm in Elma. He had a love of nature and enjoyed the simple things in life. A great day could be going to pick mushrooms or just to watch his garden grow (especially the tomatoes). He was a man who loved being around people and could make a friend wherever he went. He loved to hear a good joke or to tell one. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses in the ICU at the Selkirk District General Hospital for all their exceptional care and kindness, and to Rev. Mawejje for his prayers and compassion at this difficult time. Respecting Peter's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Eucharist Church at the corner of Pacific Street and Sophia Avenue, Selkirk, with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later time at Glen Eden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund, 303-83 Garry Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4J9. You were our wisdom of ages, the rock we ran to, you gave so much of yourself unselfishly, and were always there for us. We will forever love and miss you. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
