AUDREY MAUDE PANKHURST (FITZGERALD) July 1, 1927 - February 8, 2008 With sudden sadness, we say a loving goodbye to our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Audrey. Mom left us suddenly on February 8, 2008, at the age of 80, at Poseidon Care Centre. She was predeceased by her mother Kathleen and her father Athol, along with her brother Freddie and sisters Iris and Loretta. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her only daughter Maureen (Glen); her sons, Peter (Brenda), David (Gwen) of Victoria, BC, and her youngest Garth; her darling grandchildren, Raymond, David, Grant (Lori) and Rebecca; her loving sisters and brothers, Lois, Muriel, Colleen, June, Bruce and Linden, along with many numerous nephews, nieces and friends. Audrey was born July 1, 1927, in Meota, Saskatchewan. She led an adventurous life, working at the Douglas Lake Ranch as a cook for several years. Traveling to England in 1960, she finally came back to settle in Winnipeg to raise a family. Her beautiful singing voice could be heard throughout the house, along with her infectious laugh. Mom was a high spirited, go-getter. Even in retirement she always gave of her time unselfishly. Her family and her grandchildren were her life, and her dedication to us will live with us forever. Mom was a devoted Jehovah Witness, enjoying many years of faithful service to Jehovah, sharing the Bible's hope of God's kingdom arrangement for a paradise earth where death will be no more, neither will mourning, nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away. Rev. 21: 3,4. Our sincere thanks and love goes to the staff on the 3rd floor at the Poseidon Care Centre for their dedication and care given to our mother. With much respect to our mother's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held February 23 at 3:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 937 Gateway Road. Mom will be placed with her beloved parents in Birds Hill, when the sun is shining its brightest and the birds will be singing their loudest. Although you may no longer be with us, we will always hold you dear in our hearts, for your memory will forever be cherished. Goodbye, Mom. Condolences & Memories (1 entries)

  • I'll always remember Aunt Audrey's laugh. Loud and infectious and used often. Hers was a very fun house to visit as there was always something interesting going on. As well as being full of kids, there was also always interesting pets because Audrey had quite a way with animals. I remember patting a winded pregnant pony in Ontario and listening to a singing orange canary named Drumstick in Winnipeg. There was never a dull moment when Audrey was around. Sorry I couldn't be there - I wish you all the best in this very sad time. - Posted by: Kathleen Pearl (Family) on: Feb 23, 2008
