BERTRAM ALWYN RALSTON MAUNDERS 1927 - 2008 Quietly, at peace and surrounded by his family, Bert Maunders passed away at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre on Sunday, February 10, 2008. He was 80 years of age. He leaves to mourn his beloved wife Dorothy; their children, Bruce (Helene) and Brenda (Barry Potyondi); granddaughters, Adrienne (Steve LeClair) and Avery; brothers, John Stevenson (Louise) and Leslie; sister Ruth (George Manson), and nieces and nephews. Bert was predeceased by his mother Eva Stevenson. Born, raised and educated in Winnipeg, Bert worked for Eatons for 43 years in various capacities and retired as manager and buyer of white goods (stoves, fridges, dishwashers, plumbing) for Western Canada. He also served as President of the Eatons charitable fund, which provided entertainment for places like Middlechurch Nursing Home and raised money for various charities. Bert and Dorothy loved to travel. They spent many happy vacations with their family and traveled with friends by car and trailer across the U.S.A. and Canada. They also enjoyed trips to warm climes by plane. Bert greatly enjoyed golf, music, books and classic movies, and was known as a grandpa who truly loved his children and grandchildren. They fondly recall the many horsey-back rides he gave them and the pranks he never tired of playing with them. He was a man who always had a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye and, more often than not, a sly wink at the ready. He will truly be missed. Many thanks to the staff at the Golden Door Geriatric Centre for their kindness to Bert and the family. We all appreciated it very much. Also a big thanks to special friends, Kay Wall and Maurice Ingram who were always there when needed. According to Bert's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
