Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWALTER ZDRILL It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandpa, brother, and friend Walter Zdrill on February 11, 2008 at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of fifty-two years Helen, sons Brian, David (Patsy), Leonard (Barb) and his precious grandchildren, Jeremy, Laura Beth, Ryan, and Rebecca. He is survived by three sisters; Helen, Mary, and Annie, numerous brothers and sisters-in law, and many nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his parents, John and Stella, brother Nick, and sister Nellie. Walter was born on December 12, 1933 in Kenora, Ontario. When he was a child, the family moved to Tyndall and soon after, Selkirk. It was Selkirk where he made his home until his passing. He began his working career as a delivery driver for the local Coca Cola bottling plant in Selkirk. From there he moved on to the Manitoba Rolling Mills where he spent almost forty years before retiring in 1991. A hard worker, conscientious, and dedicated to his job, he was especially concerned for the safety and well being of his co-workers. Walter also spent many years as the Financial Secretary for The United Steelworkers Local # 5442. Walter loved the simple things in life. Being outdoors, taking a drive in the country, working in the yard or garden, picking berries or mushrooms, all were activities he looked forward to and enjoyed. He got great pleasure from visiting family and friends. Together with Helen, they enjoyed their travels, especially the years they escaped parts of Manitoba's winter in Arizona or Texas. Walter will be missed by many people. He was a caring and compassionate man who was dedicated to his family. He also willingly found time to lend a helping hand to those around him. It could be a neighbor who needed snow cleared from their driveway, helping someone get to where they needed to go, or cutting grass at the church. He was always involved. His greatest delight was his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them and always attended as many of their activities and events as he could. The family would like to express their thanks to Dr. Fuchs for his dedicated care and to the compassionate and supportive staff at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. Respecting Walter's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 17 at Gilbart's Funeral Home, 309 Eveline Street, Selkirk with Fr. Peter Chorney officiating. A private family internment will follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund, 303-83 Garry Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4J9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements. Your spirit remains with us, rest in peace, we love you.
