Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryISADORE (ISSY) GREENFELD It is with great sadness and heavy hearts the family announces the peaceful passing of Issy Greenfeld at the age of 85 at the St. Boniface Hospital on January 21, 2008. Issy will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife Dora, his daughter Roberta (Fred), son Sherman (Janet), precious grandchildren Aaron, Rachel and Zack. He is also survived by his brother Isaac, sister Peggy, as well as many relatives and friends. Issy was predeceased by his beloved daughter Sharon, his parents Leibish and Rochcia and his brothers Harry and Benny. Issy was born in Sokolov, Poland on September 19, 1922 and came to Canada in 1939. He was involved in the livestock business. For 30 years he was the owner of G and R Meats and Deli Butcher Shop on Selkirk Avenue. Issy loved his work and many of his customers became long time friends. On a couple of trips he took to Hawaii, he couldn't wait to come home to his shop and his friends . Issy was known for his wonderful herring platters. Upon his unwanted retirement to take care of his wife, people would call him and approach him to open up his butcher shop again, as Issy had the best meat in town, at the best prices. Issy was a handyman and a jack of all trades. There was nothing he wouldn't try to do, and if he couldn't fix it, he had many good friends who would help him at a moments notice. His family was his life. He was always strong for his wife and beloved children and grandchildren. In return, his family will always have a special place in their hearts for him. They will cherish the many memories he leaves. Issy was a very religious man. He was proud to be one of the founding members of the Ashkenazi Synagogue in Winnipeg. Rabbi Altein appreciated Issy for all the services he attended and participated in throughout the years. During his eulogy, Rabbi Altein made many warm references about this wonderful man, a true mensch. Among Issy's proudest achievements was a trip to his beloved Israel and his invitation to the Rideau Hall in Ottawa by the former Governor General, The Honorable Ed Schreyer. Issy's family and many friends mourn his loss and celebrate his life. His spirit will live on in the memories of all those who loved him and whose lives he touched. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 23 at 12:30p.m. at the Chesed Shel Emes. Burial took place at the Hebrew Sick Cemetery. Pallbearers were his brother Isaac Greenfeld, Shim Goldberg, Morley Goldberg, David Lewis, Leonard Schwartz and Archie Kraut. Shiva was observed at the home of his daughter Roberta at 719 Waterloo Street. In lieu of flowers, donations in Issy's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Daddy, you were my rock. Your footprints will be forever embedded in our hearts and souls.
