Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRONALD (RON) ADAMS CAMPBELL February 11, 1926 February 14, 2008 Surrounded with love and his family, Ron passed away at the Grace Hospital on Thursday, February 14, 2008, just three days after his 82nd birthday. Ron will continue to be loved and missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Patricia (Eve); his precious daughter, Val and husband Richard Waller; as well as his beloved grandchildren, Meaghan and Matthew. He was predeceased by his parents Katherine and George and older brother, Ian. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Ron was always a very proud and loyal man. When war broke out in 1941, he joined the British Merchant Navy as a radio officer. During this time, Ron sailed the Arctic Crossing from Britain to Murmansk, Russia. Winston Churchill called this the suicide run. As well, he was on one of the rescue ships crossing the Atlantic from Glasgow to Halifax. One of the ships he was on was torpedoed but he was lucky enough to survive when many fellow shipmates did not. As a result of his time in the Merchant Navy he received the Arctic Medal and the Russian Arctic Cross. In compliance with Ron's wishes, no formal funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ron's memory to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3J 3M7.
