Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySTEVE TKACHUK It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and friend Steve Tkachuk on February 20, 2008. Steve passed after a brief but courageous battle with cancer at the St. Boniface General Hospital. He was predeceased by his father Michael and brothers Metro, Bobby, and Peter. He is survived by his mother Mary, his children Greg (Tracy) and Kim (Carson), his siblings Bill (Joan), Lillian, Stan (Joan), John (Rose), Maurice (Pat) and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steve was born on July 10, 1945, at the farmstead in Stuartburn, Manitoba. He spent his childhood and formative years in this area then decided to head west to British Columbia for a few years. Upon his return he lived in Winnipeg until returning to the Stuartburn / Tolstoi area to start his own family, close to the community and families he valued so much. Shortly after returning to the country Steve took the leap into opening his own business - Steve's Custom Welding and through his almost 32 years in business, his work touched the lives of many people around the province. He was an extremely talented and artistic craftsman and artisan and there wasn't anything metal that he couldn't fix. Through his employment in Winnipeg, Grunthal and then on his own in Tolstoi, it's hard to go anywhere in southern Manitoba without driving over, under, or past something which his hands touched. Our Dad was an avid sportsman and nature lover. He gave many hours over the years to different organizations such as Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Federation, and the Tall Grass Prairie projects. He had a keen eye for spotting wildlife and loved to share his depth of knowledge on local flora and fauna with his kids. His allegiance to small town life and local small business owners was a source of pride. He was a dedicated family man and would always stop everything to help anyone who needed him. His loyalty to his family and community will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A viewing and prayer service will be held at the Vita Funeral Home in Vita, MB, on Sunday, February 24 with viewing starting at 2:00 p.m. and the prayers at 7:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sarto, MB, on Monday, February 25 at 2:00 p.m. to be followed by a light reception in the church basement. An interment service will be held for the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Ducks Unlimited Canada, National Wild Turkey Federation, or the Canadian Cancer Society.
