Date of Passing: Feb 21, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGARDEN WEST Peacefully on Thursday, February 21, 2008, Garden, loving husband to Flo, passed away at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. Dad was born September 2, 1917 and spent his entire life in Selkirk. This past September he celebrated his 90th birthday. Besides his loving wife Flo, dad leaves to mourn his children, Sandra (Allan), Linda, Rick (Lorraine) and Robert, as well as his six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and his niece and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his mother Isabelle, his father Richard, his sister Eva as well as his two sons-in-law, Jim and Carter. Dad served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as a Sergeant from 1940 to 1946. When he returned to Selkirk he completed his Psychiatric training at the Selkirk Mental Health Centre. He retired as an administrator in 1979 after 40 years of service in the health care profession for the Provincial Government. Dad was a long standing member of both the Royal Canadian Legion #215, and The Army, Navy and Air Force unit 151. Of all dad's interests, camping with his family and friends was what he enjoyed the most. This continued well into their later years when they had their trailer on a seasonal lot at Sandy Hook. They loved the years spent there as well as their daily trips to Gimli to see the sights. Mom and Dad were blessed with 65 years of marriage and Dad enjoyed 28 years of retirement. Many thanks to Home Care whose help has allowed mom and dad to live independently in their own home these last few years. In keeping with Dad's wishes cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at the St. Clements Columbarium, Archdeacon Godfrey Mawejje to officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in dad's memory to the Manitoba Arthritis Society, 105-386 Broadway Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3R6. Arrangements entrusted to Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk. Dad, peace is yours Always loved, Never forgotten
