Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGEORGE COCKROFT With deep sorrow we announce the passing of George Stanley Cockroft at Concordia Hospital on Sunday, February 17, 2008 at the age of 83. George will be sadly missed by his children, Bonnie (Barry) Busch, Allison (Allan) Jennings, Charles (Velma) Cockroft and their mother, Beatrice Vollrath. He is also survived by sisters, Shirley Cockroft, Treva (Lloyd) Brooks and family and Edna Fawcett as well as grandchildren Julie (Troy), Todd, Trevor (Lori-Anne), Amy, Ryan, Brendan, Lisa, Tanis and Shayne. Great-grandchildren are Kalysta, Treya and Ainsley. George was predeceased by his parents Stanley and Treva Cockroft and stepmother Effie Cockroft and brothers Donald and Terry. George was born on June 22, 1924 in Winnipeg and resided there most of his life. He enjoyed living in Selkirk for seven years at Woodland Courts. He then moved back to an apartment in Winnipeg where he lived until September, 2007. George served in the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion in Winnipeg and he also enjoyed visiting the Legion in Selkirk. He worked for 25 years as an insurance adjustor for Enderton's. He also worked at Fluorescent Sales Service and finished his working career at Brook Bond Foods. George loved to read and was always ready for a game of cribbage. He enjoyed collecting stamps as well as traveling on the open road whenever he had the opportunity. He enjoyed trips to pet stores so he could choose more fish for his fish tank. He liked to keep up with current affairs by reading the Free Press and the Winnipeg Sun. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Voyage Funeral Home, 220 Hespeler Avenue on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.
