Date of Passing: Feb 20, 2008
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVELYN ANNE MARKS (nee LESOSKY) aka GRRR-BEAR May 24, 1935 - February 20, 2008 Surrounded by her beloved family, Evelyn's courageous battle with lung and heart failure ended February 20, 2008. Evelyn was raised in Beaconia, Manitoba. In her mid teens, her family moved to Winnipeg. Shortly after her dad passed away, she took a job at Eaton's. She worked there until she met the love of her life, Len. They were married in 1955 and had four children. They left Winnipeg in 1979 and relocated to Vancouver, and then to the Okanagan. Her love for country music found her at many a party. She loved a good joke and told it like it was, even if it stung a little. Mom loved gardening, canning and giving away her dill pickles. But not everyone got their hands on her perogies! Her true passion was her grandchildren whom she couldn't spoil enough. Her legacy of love influenced our yesterdays, created today's memories, and gave us the promise of tomorrow's reunion. She will be deeply missed by her loving husband and best friend of 53 years, Len, and their two puppy dogs, Goldie and Misty. Losing her leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her children: Valerie (Vaughan), Karen, Bob (Shelley) and Garnet (Corinne). Gramma leaves cherished memories to her grandchildren: Cory, Josh and Travis, Kelsey, Tyler and Tanner, Rolen and Riegar. Survived by her sisters: Edna and Marlene aka Choo Choo Baby (Bob), brother George aka Organs (Virginia), and many loving nieces and nephews. Also survived by her mother-in-law Lena Marks of Gimli, Manitoba, and extended family members: Auntie Francis Gottfried, Auntie Margaret Skronek, Mike and Leona Woychyshyn, Dorothy Ingleson, Bill Marks (Becky), Doreen Marks, Louise Marks and Joan Lesosky. Predeceased by her dad Steve, her mother Tina, her brother Harry aka Moose and her brothers-in-law: Jim, Dan, Terry and Charlie. Special thanks to Dr. Mark Corbett for his exceptional care and compassion and to the Critical Care Unit staff at Kelowna General Hospital. A celebration of her life will take place on Friday, February 29 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 3625 Paynter Rd., Westbank. Viewing at 10:00 a.m. Service at 11:00 a.m. Please join us at the luncheon to follow. Her pallbearers will be her grandchildren. In her memory, we would love you to plant a tomato plant or an extra flower in your garden! Love Lasts forever. Arrangements in care of Everden Rust Funeral Services, (250)860-6440.

In the early 60's and mid 70's our family lived across the street from the Marks family. I remember Evelyn as a caring mother, and the best neighbour in every way. As a young boy in the 60's, Bobby and I were good friends. I am sad to hear of the family's loss. The wonderful memories will always stay with me. - Posted by: D'Arcy Surrette (Former Neighbour) on: Jan 12, 2014
