YVETTE PLANTE (nee ROUSSEAU) November 28, 1911 - February 24, 2008 Peacefully, with her family around her, Yvette Plante passed away at the Victoria Hospital at the age of 96. She was predeceased by her husband Lionel, and her eldest son Sylva. She was also predeceased by her parents and her three sisters. Yvette leaves to mourn her daughter Diane (Bill), her son Ron (Marsha), daughter Linda (Brian), three grandchildren, Rob (Tanya), Kelli (Trevor), Blair, one great-granddaughter Rylee, and many nieces and nephews. Yvette was born in Perigord, Saskatchewan, where, at the age of 25, she married Lionel Plante in 1936. They farmed in Perigord for a while but were unable to make a living from farming. And so, in order to provide all the necessities of life for their children they moved from their farming community to Flin Flon, Manitoba, a mining community, in 1941. Yvette and Lionel lived happily in their home on Ross Street for many years and, later in life, at the Legion Jubilee Residence in Flin Flon until Lionel's passing in 1987. Yvette continued to live at the residence, enjoying the company of her many friends until she moved to the Lindenwoods Manor in Winnipeg, in 2002, to be closer to her family. At the age of 96, Yvette, was still mobile and lived independently in her own apartment at Lindenwoods Manor. She was active, energetic and always had a zest for life right up until the end of her life. During her time in Flin Flon she liked to go fishing with Lionel and enjoyed picking berries. She was a wonderful cook and baker, capable of zeroing in on the best way to prepare each family member's favourite dish. She liked to garden. Her favourite flowers were pansies and gladiolas. She was a creative seamstress and knitter. She enjoyed crewel work and embroidery. She has left behind many fine examples of her extraordinary talent. She had a great time playing cards, especially cribbage, rummy and whist. She loved all kinds of animals but her favourites were horses. She enjoyed watching nature and animal programs on T.V. Seeing babies and young children gave her a special joy. She was very patient and understanding with them. She was an elegant lady, always smartly dressed. Yvette was a very dear Mother and Grandmother who had a big heart for everyone, family and friends alike. She was pleasant, helpful and a joy to be around. Even though she never worked outside the home, she believed in hard work and made family and home her career. She was good at it and enjoyed doing it. Her happiest times were being with her family. The church was very important to her. She trusted in God and relied on Him and prayer in her everyday life. Yvette will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She gave us great memories which will stay in our minds and hearts. Thank you for your unselfish love and devotion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Yvette's name to a charity of choice. Prayers will be said at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 DesMeurons Street. Funeral mass will take place at 11:00 a.m. with Father Darrin Gurr officiating on Thursday, February 28 at St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Place. Interment of her cremated remains next to her husband, will take place at a later date in Flin Flon. The family would like to thank Dr. Woo, the nursing staff at Victoria General Hospital, and the staff at Desjardins Funeral Chapel for their caring and thoughtfulness. Also, thanks goes to Father Darrin Gurr for his support in our time of loss. DESJARDINS FUNERAL CHAPEL 233-4949 1-888-233-4949
