ERNA ANNE DRIESCHNER (nee SPLETZER) 1919 - 2008 Holzdorf, Germany - Winnipeg On February 23 at Tuxedo Villa in her 89th year, loved and beloved mother of Ruth (Jack) and Lothar (Christine), grandmother of Tracey (Raymond), Thomas, Christin, and Cory (Nancy), great-grandmother of Kayden and Seth, Tanya, Marc and Christiana, and Nick and Hunter, and sister of Margarete (Sam), passed away peacefully. Anne lived a full life. She was an independent, adventurous, and spirited woman who loved challenges. In November 1955, Anne left urban Germany and immigrated to rural Canada. Such courage! However, kind and generous Canadian families eased the transition for her and her daughter during those first three years. In 1958, she married Hans and was welcomed into the Drieschner clan, Werner and Marga and nephew, Mark. The family made Winnipeg home. Anne was a loving wife to Hans and a caring sister to Erich and Lotte, all who predeceased her. As a parent, Anne encouraged independence, tolerance, and the pursuit of excellence. As a grandparent and great-grandparent, she delighted in celebrations and was always generous with love and laughter. As a friend, she cherished grand conversations, a good cup of coffee, and something sweet. As a lifelong learner, Anne pursed many passions. As a health care worker she was gentle, nurturing, and respectful. As a real estate agent, she was loyal, honest, and an informed professional and was honoured and recognized for her work. As a woman of leisure, she was an ardent traveler - camping (tent and motor home) across Canada, flying to Hawaii to visit sister Margarete and family, off to Germany to stay closely connected, not only to son Lothar and family, but also, with sister Lotte (Gustel), cousins, and nieces and nephews. When real travel was no longer an option, she pursued it through books, magazines, films, and experiences of others. She was an avid reader and lover of stories and has passed on that love to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who thank her for that legacy. Anne has spent the past seven years as a resident of Tuxedo Villa, and the family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Unit 2 and other support staff for their ongoing compassionate care. A celebration of Anne's life will take place on Sunday, March 2 in the Library at Tuxedo Villa, 2060 Corydon Avenue, at a Come and Go, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to your charity of choice would be greatly appreciated. We'll miss you Mom! Anne! Grandma! Oma! with love from your family GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 338-7111
