Wynnell was born on October 28, 1926 in Chicago, IL. After attending Iowa State University, where she obtained her BA, her career path led her to Elmhurst, IL taking a job at the Medical Campus at University of Illinois. Her career got side-tracked when she met the love of her life, Don. Married on June 20, 1953, the happy couple ventured north to Winnipeg. Don was returning to set up his Ophthalmology Practice at the Medical Arts Building and Wynnell was entering Canada for the first time. The young couple settled in River Heights where they started their family. Wynnell took great pride in raising her children and sacrificed her time for the needs of her children and would go to the end of the world to ensure their well being. Wynnell and Don loved to spend a lot of time summer vacationing at Lake Winnipeg when the children were young and, when older, at Lake of the Woods, with occasional visits to San Jose, California to visit Wynnell's parents (Reba and Robert). She was involved in many charitable organizations all her life and was always willing to help. Some of these organizations include: Junior League, Meals on Wheels, Zoological Society, Thrift Shop and PEO. She loved crafts, needle point, ceramics, gardening, reading, cooking and bird watching. Wynnell had a passion for all animals, constantly taking in strays, from rabbits, dogs, cats and even a chicken. She supported the Zoo by sponsoring a variety of animals and loved to assist the Humane Society. Wynnell loved her grandchildren dearly. They were her pride and joy and this feeling was reciprocated. She loved to watch them in all their activities and hear their stories. Many special moments were celebrated together, American and Canadian Thanksgiving, Christmas, Birthdays, and Don and Wynnell's 50th Wedding Anniversary. Wynnell had a wide circle of friends which she had met over the years through her many clubs that she was associated with. A celebration of Wynnell's life will be held on Monday, March 3 at the St. Andrews River Heights United Church, 255 Oak St. at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the Humane Society or the Assiniboine Park Zoo. I am sorry I never got the chance to thank you for always keeping me in your thoughts, for welcoming me into your heart as one of your own. I never did forget your kindness and your open arms. But I am also grateful to have been part of your life and your family. While I am sure your good deeds will serve you well in the next world, I miss you here, as part of my world, and I am so sad you had to go.
