TERENCE FREDRICK BUBBS (ELMO) February 12, 1948 - February 27, 2008 Peacefully on February 27, with family and friends by his side, Terry passed away after a hard-fought battle with cancer. He will be remembered by his wife of 35 years, Anne, daughters; Laura, and Ellen, brother John (Shirley), sisters; Bonnie McCreedy of Calgary, Lorna McColl (John) of Perth, Australia, and Joan Bubbs (David Crawley) of Kelowna, BC. Also by Anne's family; parents, George and Doreen Fenn of Manitou, MB, sisters; Linda McGuire (Terry) of Calgary, and Cathy Shaw (Ed) of Cardale, MB, by his nieces; Claire, Cheryl, Erin, Heather, Kelsey, and Rachael, nephews; Christopher, Ryan, and Cale, and many close relatives and dear friends. Terry was the eldest of five children born to the late Elmer and Molly Bubbs. He grew up in Fort Garry and cherished many happy memories of the times on Crescent Drive. The bond he and his siblings shared was very special to him, as were the many friendships he made throughout his life. Terry was proud to be a third generation electrical contractor, in the family business, Bubbs Electric. He enjoyed working alongside his brother, John, and the many adventures he was able to go on all throughout the Canadian Arctic. He loved to travel, and in recent years, had several opportunities to go to many places to spend time with family and friends. Terry had a wonderful ability to talk to anyone, about anything. He was always quick to introduce himself to someone, and loved to just shoot the breeze . He especially cherished the regular one-on-one time, and coffee talks he had with Laura and Ellen, of whom he was so proud. After his diagnosis in 2000, Terry began to attend meetings of the Manitoba Prostate Cancer Support Group. He became an active member, supporting men recently diagnosed, and was always educating himself about the latest advances in treatments and medicines. In 2006, after learning of a drug called Zometa, Terry became an advocate for prostate cancer patients, and was a key influence in the treatment now being available in Manitoba. Throughout his illness, and especially in recent months, Terry and his family were touched by the generosity, kindness, and care of many close friends. He was very comforted by your support. Thank you also to the rest of Elmo's team , all of the health care providers who cared for Terry over the last eight years, especially to the staff of the St. Boniface Palliative Care, and the Grace Hospice. Terry's great stories, quick wit, and wonderful sense of humour will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. A reception in celebration of Terry's life will be held on Monday, March 3, 2008, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Wildewood Club, 761 North Drive.
