LES NAMAK Leslie Joel Namak of Winnipeg passed away on the 13th of February 2008 at the age of 37 after a brief but heroic battle with cancer. Les is survived by his parents, Gerry and Mickey, his sister Mandy, his brother-in-law Chris, his niece Madeline and grandmother Ruth. Les was predeceased by his beloved mom, Minda. Also left to cherish Les' memory are the multitudes of friends and coworkers he touched with his kind nature and gentle spirit. Les was a wonderful son, brother, uncle, grandson and friend to many. Les treasured sports, especially his childhood favourites, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and Jets. Les and his best friend Rob Starr traveled abroad to see many games, they managed a fantasy football league together for 15 years and never missed a Bomber game with their season tickets. Recently, Les had joined the Rady Centre and had developed a passion for exercising while also experiencing the joy of creating new bonds of friendship. Les proudly held the title of Guest Services Manager at the Victoria Inn. His work gave him purpose and the opportunity to meet and touch many people. His character and personality made him ideally suited for the hospitality business. He was polite, personable, courteous and always had a smile on his face. He was always happy to help out and got along with everyone. His disposition as a People person was respected and admired by everyone at the Victoria Inn and put him within reach of his goal of Front Desk Manager. Family was everything to Les and to his delight, Mandy, Chris and Madeline moved back to Winnipeg in April of 2007. He loved his sister dearly and thought Chris was the greatest brother-in-law anyone could have. The love and special bond between Madeline and her Uncle Les meant more to him than all the treasures of the world. His appreciation for family was always foremost, including the little things such as meeting for coffee, going to a movie or babysitting his Niece. Mickey loved Les as her son and was proud of his faith and strength. While in the hospital, she was constantly by his side offering love, support and advocating on his behalf. Her kindness brought Les comfort and he was so proud to call her his Mother. To his Dad, Les was a hero! He never complained and was always concerned about others. His grace and composure handling this terrible disease will always remain in our minds and hearts. Les's legacy can truly be seen in the people who came to visit him when he was most in need. People came from all walks of life from many distant places. Continuous phone calls of encouragement and visits from old friends and relatives from far away cities - thank you to everyone that made Les feel so loved and cared for during his final weeks. Our sincere thanks to the nurses and aides on D3 and H4 at the Health Sciences Centre for their care of Les. Recognition to the doctors who all made such valiant efforts to help Les: Dr. Charles Bernstein, Dr. Roger Saadia, Dr. Kenny Lamba and Dr. Andrew Maksymiuk. A special thanks to all Les's friends who served as pallbearers during the funeral service.
