AASJE (ALICE) KOENE (nee VAN DER TOORN) On February 28, 2008 surrounded by her family, our Heavenly Father gathered Alice, at the age of 96, into His loving arms to take her home. She was born in Scheveningen, The Netherlands, on February 25, 1912 and came to Canada with her husband and five children in 1948. She was predeceased by her husband Jacobus in 1970; her daughter Maureen; son-in-law Bill, and her twin sister Marie. Alice is survived by her children: Annie (John), Gerda (John), Leonard (June), Mentina, Maria (Clemens), Elsie (Bill) and Terry, her sister Mentina and many nephews and nieces. Alice was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Mom was a wonderful mother and grandmother and was totally devoted to her family. Many great-grandchildren are sporting scarves handmade by Oma and until just recently was still able to knit. Warm and special thanks to the nurses and staff of the Middlechurch Home for the wonderful care and compassion shown to Mom and her family. There will be a memorial service at the Friends Funeral Chapel, 2146 Main Street, Winnipeg at 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2008. Reverend Art Van Slageren, grandson, will officiate.
