ROSS MUIR PHILLIPS October 20, 1917 - March 3, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather. He passed quietly with family by his bedside. Left behind to celebrate his life is his wife of 60 years Fran (Bonner), son Wayne (Heather), Kerri and Travis; son Allan (Pat), Marla, Dayna; and only sister Della. Ross was predeceased by his parents, Alex and Janet, infant son Cecil, and brother-in-law Jim Evans. Born and raised in Roland, Manitoba, Ross enjoyed baseball, hockey, curling, horseshoes and a good game of cards or crokinole. When the call of duty came, Ross enlisted in the Royal Canadian Artillery and from 1943 to 1946 fought in Italy and surrounding countries, then returned home to take up farming, married the girl across the road and raised their sons. He and Fran moved to Carman in 1972 and later enjoyed retired life with curling, bowling, cribbage and golfing. He also played an active role in the Roland and Carman Royal Canadian Legions. Ross always had time to stop and chat or have a coffee with the gang. Ross's family and friends were very important to him and all will sadly miss him. Services will be on March 7, 2008, 2:00 p.m. at the Carman United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Carman United Church or Carman Health Auxiliary. Doyle's Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. (www.doyleschapels.com)
