ALVIN ARTHUR JOHNSON October 21, 1938 - March 1, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Alvin Johnson on March 1, 2008 at his home in Clarkleigh Manitoba. He leaves to mourn, his daughter Angela (Blair) Burdett, granddaughter Haley, grandson Alex of La Salle MB, His son Edwin (Diane), granddaughter Sydney of Winnipeg, MB. Brothers Ron (Gail) of St. Albert, Alberta and Murray of Woodlands. He also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. He is survived by his children's mother and special friend Bernice. He was predeceased by his parents Kari (1958) and Myrtle (1995) and brother Edwin (1946). Dad was born in Eriksdale, MB on October 21, 1938. He was raised and attended school in Oak Point. He was married to Bernice (Millar) from 1964-1991. They lived and raised their two children in the Oak Point area. Although he never had a formal trade, he was a Jack-of-all trades. He worked for the Department of Natural Resources on Lake Winnipeg, on a B B Gang for CNR, building transmission lines for BACM, and the Department of Highways. He worked as a carpenter in various locations, built two of his own homes and helped build others in and around the Oak Point area. He had a passion for commercial ice-fishing, starting as a young man staying in fish camps with his father on Lake Manitoba. He later owned and operated his own fishing outfit for many years. He also spent many years hobby farming while he worked for the Department of Highways. Dad's love of the outdoors included hunting, trapping, gardening and observing wildlife. He had a special gift for raising and training Labrador Retrievers. His most recent dog Bear was a faithful companion until last Spring. He enjoyed watching his children and grand-children learn to hunt and always made sure they were in a good spot. He spent many Fall evenings sitting in his lawn chair with his dog by his side watching the geese fly over and reminiscing with friends about the great hunts they had. Dad had a passion for gardening. His garden was spectacular and he took great satisfaction and pride in sharing fresh vegetables and canning with his friends and family. Dad loved to dance, listen to Old Time music on the Polka Party on the radio, and watch the Blue Jays on TV. You could rely on his weekend phone call to catch up on the events of the week. They will be missed by all of us. We would like to thank all those who showed kindness and support for Dad over the years. It has not gone unnoticed and is greatly appreciated. In accordance with Dad's wishes he will be cremated with a memorial service to be held at the Oak Point Community Hall and burial at the Oak Point East Cemetery at a later date. Honorary pallbearers will be named at that time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Health Science Center Foundation (Burn Unit), MS107-820 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, MB R3A 1R9, or to a charity of your choice. Judgments prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond the appearances. - Wayne Dyer Arrangements by: ARNASON FUNERAL HOMES LTD. Ashern - Lundar (204) 768-2072
