DOROTHY MARJORIE HASTINGS It is with mixed emotions that we announce the passing of our friend, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Dorothy Marjorie Hastings left peacefully in the early hours of March 6, 2008 to be with her beloved Syd. We will miss her greatly but are happy knowing that she is at long last where she wants to be. Doie, as she was known to friends and family, was born in Port Arthur, Ontario in 1917 and was raised in Winnipeg. She is survived by her daughter Sydney and son Mark, and by her sisters, Shirley (Paul) Rosen of California and Margaret Meriweather of Washington. Doie will be missed by her grandchildren, Susan (Jim), Robert (Tracy), Sharon (Craig) and Paul, Rick, Sherene (Joe) and Mack, by several nieces and nephews, and by many great-grandchildren. Doie enjoyed a full life: she worked 30 years at Hudson's Bay Company, volunteered in the gift shop at Victoria Hospital; was active with The Bay Seniors, was a life member of the Royal Purple, a past Honoured Royal Lady; she was a long-time member of Harrow United Church and spent many happy summer days out at Sherwood Lake. Dorothy spent her final few years in the care of the devoted staff of 4West at Deer Lodge Centre, most of whom will long remember her as a spirited lady with colourful commentary, who brightened at the sight of her great-grandkids, a pet-visitor or a handful of sweets. Doie requested that we acknowledge her many friends and caregivers with these words: A miracle called friendship That dwells within the heart And we do not know how it happens Or where it got it's start But the happiness it brings you Gives you a special lift And we realize that friendship is God's most precious gift. til we meet again In accordance with her wishes, no service will be held Doie hopes that all who knew her will remember her as she was. Donations may be made in her name to the Winnipeg Humane Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation. BARDAL FUNERAL HOME 843 Sherbrook Street, 774-7474 Condolences: www.bardal.ca
